Local Organizations Partner to Bring Better Nutrition to the Classroom
Generations is expanding its ability to help provide fresh and local produce year-round to Mainers of all ages through partnerships with Healthy Communities of the Capital Area (HCCA), the Kennebec County Sherriff’s Department, and other local organizations like the Good Shepherd Food Bank.
In the fall of 2014, Spectrum Generations joined forces with Healthy Communities of the Capital Area (HCCA), a Local Healthy Maine Partnership, in a 2-year USDA Farm to School grant to facilitate purchasing, distribution, and processing of local foods in school meals. This grant was awarded to HCCA to assist the Kennebec County Sherriff’s Office with their Kennebec’s Restorative Community Harvest, formerly known at the Inmate Garden Project.
