DETAILS:

The Kennebec Valley Art Association invites artist submissions to Art2011, the 16th annual juried show at the Harlow Gallery in Hallowell.  Art2011 is open to all Maine artists and to any artist with a strong connection to Maine. Original fine art in any media may be submitted, including hand pulled prints, photography, and sculpture. Crafts are not eligible. Each artist may submit digital images of up to three works of art.  $1,300 in cash prizes will be awarded, plus gift certificates from area business sponsors.

Art2011 will be a big departure from the established procedure of the past 15 years, because the Harlow Gallery following the national trend of many other juried shows by accepting only digital submissions via email for the first round. We hope this will be easier for all concerned. It will save on paper, gasoline (think of all those artists driving back and forth to the Harlow every year!), artist, staff and volunteer time.  The deadline for electronic submissions is midnight on April 1, 2011.  For a complete entry rules and instructions on how to enter your work in Art2011, please visit our website: www.harlowgallery.org

Our jurors will do a first review based on the digital submissions and ask artists whose work they wish to consider for the final review to deliver their work to the Harlow Gallery so they can view it in person. Therefore any work you submit must be available to be delivered to the Harlow Gallery on Friday, April 29 or Saturday, April 30, between noon – 6 pm. The jurors will make their final selections for the exhibition and awards by reviewing the actual work the week of May 1-5, 2011.

Jurors this year are Margaret Libby and Véronique Plesch, both professors at Colby College in Waterville. Margaret Libby teaches figure drawing and painting, and fine art photography and is interested in visual equivalents of mother-daughter relationships. Véronique Plesch teaches art history; she specializes the history of European art and culture from 1300-1800, Christian iconography, medieval French literature and word and image studies.
