21st Annual Maine Open Juried Art Show

March 26-April 29 at the Waterville Public Library
Opening Reception and Award Ceremony: March 29, 6-8pm
Come and celebrate art! Co-presented by the Waterville Area Arts Society and Waterville Main Street, the Maine Open Juried Art Show is open to all amateur and professional artists 18 years and older living in Maine, including part-time residents and students. All entries must be original and completed in 2009, 2010, or 2011 and cannot have been shown in one of our previous Maine Open Juried Art Shows. For more information, including entry specifications and prize categories, artists may download a PDF version of the prospectus. An opening reception and award ceremony will be held on Tuesday, March 29 from 6-8pm. Refreshments will be served. The award presentations will be made at 7pm. The show will remain on view through April 29th.

Paintings by Pamela Hetherly and Annette Lavallee will be on display at the Central Maine Medical Center Woman’s Hospital Association (WHA) Rotating Art Gallery through March 26.
 
Heatherly moved to New England from Texas more than 25 years ago, and presently lives in the MountVernon-Fayette area. She is a member of the Kennebec Valley Art Association. Her work has been shown in numerous galleries and juried exhibits. Heatherly has completed several fine arts classes and workshops, and recently spent aweek with oil painters Andrew Lattimore on Monhegan Island and Morgan Stanley Price in Rockland, learning more about plein air painting.
 
She describes her painting interests as focused on “the portrayal of figures in action, using color to dramatize motion and emphasize gestures and emotion.”
 
Annette Lavallee, a resident of the Lewiston-Auburn area, has painted and quilted for over 25 years.

Dudziak's School of Gymnastics hosts competition and fundraiser for nine year old with rare disease

On Easter Sunday, 2010, a nine-year old Bella Tucker of Londonderry, NH contracted a rare form of Streptococcus Pneumonia Sepsis with DIC (disseminated intravascular coagulation).  After 5 days in a coma, amazingly she recovered only to then endure a quadruple amputation. Bella is a member of The Phantom Gymnastic Team and also a member of the gymnastic community from her home town of Londonderry NH. to Fairfield Me.

Dudziak's School of Gymnastics located in Biddeford ME will be hosting competition/fundraising event on February 27, 2011 for their friend, Bella.

The event is set to host over 150 gymnasts and these young humanitarians making a change.

This will be a defining moment in their lives. Bad things happen; it is how you persevere to make it right. These young people are doing just that.

Beethoven: The complete music for string quartet - Programs IV, V & VI PROGRAM: Op. 74, E flat Major Harfenquartett Op. 18, # 2, G Major Op. 131, c # minor. Returning to Bates for the third consecutive season, the Berlin based Auryn Quartet will conclude its Beethoven Quartet cycle for us and again provide selections of the composers early and middle and late period works within each of three concerts. Describing the quartets complete recording of the Beethoven quartets a reviewer from Gramophone was inspired to say; There is no shortage of great and famous Beethoven cycles, but there are no performances such as these. For me, this is now the set to beat." Cost/Cover: Tickets are $10 for the general public, and $4 for students and seniors.

More Than Just Dinner’s on the Docket at Maine Restaurant Week 2011

PORTLAND, Maine — Restaurants across the state are gearing up for the third annual Maine Restaurant Week, taking place March 1-12. Restaurants around Maine will participate in the event by featuring special three-course dinners ranging in price from $20-$40. Some restaurants will also offer three-course prix-fixe lunches from $15.

Restaurant Week celebrates the vibrancy and richness of Maine’s culinary traditions while giving restaurants a much-needed boost during the slowest time of the year.

More than seventy restaurants are already registered for the March 2011 Maine Restaurant Week, from Eliot to Bangor to Rockland. A list of participating restaurants and featured menus is available on www.mainerestaurantweek.com.

Kicking off Maine Restaurant Week is The Signature Event™, on Monday February 28 at the Masonic Temple in Portland.
