Kennebec Valley Humane Society to hold art contest for adults and youth with cash prizes to support | Business
The Kennebec Valley Humane Society (KVHS) is announcing an art contest in conjunction with the Paws in the Park and the 18th annual Mutt Strut, to be held on May 21st. The art contest is a new endeavor launched by KVHS to promote the family friendly event in May and also to encourage local artists to help support animals in need through their art.
“This contest is a very exciting addition to our KVHS fundraising efforts” says Hillary Roberts, KVHS Executive Director. “The art submissions have an entry fee which will benefit our cause, but the top three winners in both our adult and youth categories will receive generous cash prizes. Our donors who are excited about this contest donated the money for the prizes, so we’re hoping that we receive many unique and interesting submissions that reflect our mission and passion for animals”. The poster designs have no restrictions- artists are invited to be creative and design anything relating to animals or the mission of the shelter to save and improve the lives of animals in need, but all submissions and visions will be accepted.
The cash prizes for the Adult Category will be: First place - $300, second place - $200, and third place- $100. The cash prizes for the Youth Category will be: First place - $150, second place - $100, and third place - $50. There will also be a cash prize of $100 given to the “People’s Choice Winner” the day of the event based on votes cast by attendees for their favorite posters.
The posters will be used for promoting Paws in the Park and the Mutt Strut, and at the May event all posters will be judged by 3 local representatives, prizes will be given out, and then the posters will be auctioned off to benefit the local animal shelter. The top two poster winners in each category will be displayed prominently in local businesses throughout the year.
Roberts said that the contest entry fee is $10.00 for students and $20.00 for adults and the fee is due when the posters are submitted for consideration. All submissions must be completed on a poster template and entry form available at KVHS or the Harlow Gallery in Hallowell. All posters must be received (with signed entry form) no later than April 15th, 2011 at KVHS on Pet Haven Lane in Augusta.
