DAY’S JEWELERS GOES UNDER THE SEA

DAY’S JEWELERS GOES UNDER THE SEA

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration recently announced that no evidence of aquatic humanoids has ever been found. Despite this report, Day’s Jewelers in Maine and New Hampshire have welcomed two Mermaids to their summer window displays. The Day’s Mermaids are 14 feet long and have graced the windows of their South Portland and Manchester, New Hampshire store fronts. The window theme was created by Day’s Jewelers Visual Coordinator Jason Brown. “When I visited the JCK jewelry tradeshow in Las Vegas in early June I saw gorgeous and entertaining window displays and thought, our windows would be perfect for a display like that.” Brown explained. When he returned from the show Brown began to design the concept and went to work building the props. Brown says that the whole display took him about a month to build and in the process he saw the Mermaids take on a life of their own.

Dr. William Cassidy To Continue As WCCC President For 2012-13 Academic Year

MCCS President John Fitzsimmons today announced that Dr. William Cassidy, currently serving as interim president of Washington County Community College, will remain in the position through the coming academic year. Dr. Cassidy served as president of WCCC from 2003 to 2009 and returned to the college on an interim basis on July 1, 2012, when President Joyce Hedlund retired.

A search for a new president at WCCC began in February. It concluded last week without a nominee. The MCCS Board of Trustees intends to reopen the search in January of 2013.

President Fitzsimmons expressed his appreciation to Dr. Cassidy for his willingness to extend his appointment through next June:  “We are fortunate to have someone of Bill’s abilities and experiences available to lead WCCC this year. The enthusiasm and skills he brings to the job will mean that WCCC doesn’t skip a beat during this transition period.”
