Lisbon High School's drama club wins second place in 2011 Maine Regional Drama Festival

Congratulations are in order for the Lisbon High School Drama Club.  They have won 2nd place in the 2011 Maine Regional Drama Festival held on Saturday, March 12. 

The event was held at the Westbrook Performing Arts Center and was sponsored by the Maine Principal’s Association . “A lovely cohesive vision, well executed and acted. It was a visual feast populated by well-clad actors who made compelling acting choices,” according to one of the judges.  LHS Drama also won a special commendation from the judges for creating a “Magical Atmosphere” in their production of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, stating that the play was “visually strong and vibrant with effective lighting choices that enhanced the atmosphere, mood and fantasy”. Congratulations as well to Josh Oakes for winning an “All Festival Cast” award for his role as Puck.

Birdie Googins (a.k.a. the Marden’s Lady) is fabulously popular, superbly glamorous and is always making a cutting edge fashion statement that only a self-proclaimed supermodel can make and she’s coming to the Muskie Community Center Wednesday April 13th from 2:00-3:00pm!

SEARCHING FOR THE BEST WHOOPIE PIE

(Waterville – March 7, 2011) It may not be the official treat of Maine yet but who doesn’t love a good Whoopie Pie?  If you think you bake the best whoopie pies, bring three of your freshly baked pies to Spectrum Generations Muskie Community Center on Tuesday, March 22nd at 11:00am and be judged by Big G’s owners, Gerald and Ginger Michaud, and Muskie’s own Assistant Chef Karen Moody-Noyes.  For those who cannot attend the actual contest but would still like to participate, pie’s can be dropped off any time after 7:30am that day.  Pies are defined as two cakes (such as chocolate, pumpkin, etc.) with frosting in-between.  Prizes for 1st and 2nd place winners.  $5 entry fee with proceeds benefiting the Muskie Center.  Don’t miss out on this delicious event! 

The Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers Wins Award for Top Community Project

WATERVILLE, Maine - The Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers was honored at the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce's Annual Awards Dinner on March 16 as the winner of the Community Service Project of the Year Award. The nonprofit agency received the award in recognition for their recent Hague Accreditation.

The Community Service Project of the Year Award is presented annually by the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce to an area non- or not-for-profit 501(c) 3 or 501(c) 6 that enhances the community, provides for economic well-being of the area and encourages further development in the region.

The award was presented to The Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers in recognition of their recent Hague Accreditation that establishes safeguards to ensure intercountry adoption occurs in the best interest of children and families, and  with the highest levels of integrity and ethics in practice.

3rd Annual Ray Haskell Ford Fishing Derby Raises $1,700 for The Maine Children's Home for Little Wan

WATERVILLE, Maine - Despite the rain and cold temperatures, Mainers showed their passion for fishing and support for the Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers on Sunday, March 6, 2011 as part of the 3rd Annual Ray Haskell Ford Fishing Derby. The weigh-in for the statewide derby was held at Coyote's Country Bar and raised $1,700 to benefit The Maine Children's Home, a nonprofit agency that operates Maine's longest-running adoption program.

The event marked the culmination of a statewide fishing derby and silent auction featuring items from local merchants. In total, the event paid out over $1,500 in cash and prizes. Over the past three years, the event has raised $8,200 for the Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers.
 
"This annual event has become a great way for families and kids to come together and raise awareness for our agency and services.
