KVCAP to Host Turkey Round-Up Fundraiser to Feed Households in Need
Kennebec Valley Community Action Program (KVCAP) is coordinating with local food banks to bring turkeys to needy Thanksgiving tables throughout Greater Waterville this year. The Turkey Round-Up will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 6 at Elm Plaza in Waterville. All money raised will be used to purchase turkeys for Thanksgiving basket distributions with food banks and soup kitchens in Waterville, Winslow, Fairfield, Oakland, as well as the parishes of Sacred Heart and St. John’s Church.
In previous years, food banks and soup kitchens have been able to purchase turkeys for as low as 15 cents per pound from regional charitable distribution operations. Due to a slowly recovering economy, state and federal cutbacks and reduced donations, food banks received early notification that this market cost would not be available.
