SAVVY Caregiver Training at UMA This Fall

A unique approach to family caregiver education

Spectrum Generations will present a Savvy Caregiver workshop at the University of Maine, Augusta campus from10:15am to 12:15pm on Mondays beginning September 15th and ending on October 27th.   This training is for family and friends caring for individuals with dementia or Alzheimer’s living in the community.  No cost to attend.

Caregiving is a complex job and entails many tasks. This six week workshop will go through many details and scenarios that caregivers face.  This workshop is a unique approach to family caregiver education and presents ideas from many disciplines and sources. Caregivers will learn about Alzheimer's and other related dementias, the toll of caregiving; managing challenging behaviors, caring for one’s self while caring for someone else, decision making; communication strategies, and more.

After attending the program, caregivers often report positive changes in their expectations and attitudes. One caregiver stated, “I think I am more patient with my Mom, most of the time at least, realizing that what is going on with her is most often not her choice. I have enjoyed the sessions very much overall. Thanks!”

Pre-registration is required. For more information, or to register, please call Liz at 620-1656. To learn more about Spectrum Generations visit us online at or like us on Facebook.
