22nd Annual Shamrock Shiver Dip
Events

You Dive, Kids Thrive at the Boys & Girls Clubs and YMCA of Greater Waterville

Join us Saturday, March 14th for our 22nd Annual Dip, The Shamrock Shiver! This year we are headed Back to Nature and dipping in the icy waters of the Snow Pond Swim Area at the Oakland Boat Landing; registration begins at 10am with the Dip starting at 11am. If the ice allows we plan to ramp up the fun with a group race down the snowy shore for a frigid free for all, all dippers diving in at once.  After drying off and warming up we reconvene at Silver Street Tavern for a well-deserved Awards Shindig.

Please be green – in costume that is! The theme is St. Patty’s Day and we encourage all participants to wear green.  Prizes will be awarded not only for best costumes but for most money raised, most Dippers on a Team and, new this year, for winning the Battle of The Sexes.  We are keeping track of male and female dippers; the gender with the most jumpers wins!  Every female winner (do I assume too much here?) will receive one free drink at the Silver Street Awards Shindig.

To top it all off, proceedings will be hosted by 92 Moose’s Jon James who brings the party with his music, merriment and mirth.

How do kids thrive when you dive?  All monies raised directly fund the Alfond Youth Center Kid’s Kitchen. We serve over 40,000 hot meals a year to approximately 200 children on a daily basis.  This meal is more important than most of us can understand— approximately 67% of the children receiving a meal after school say this is the last meal of the day for them.

So come join the insanity!  Don your green costume, bring your team or dip alone, don’t forget all the pledges you’ve raised, and take the plunge! Even if you don’t want to dip you can raise funds for the cause and cheer on your crazier cohorts.  Register for the Shamrock Shiver on line at www.ClubAYC.org or get a copy at the front desk of the Alfond Youth Center.  You can even raise pledges on line by sending your friends, parents, teachers, and strangers you approach in the street to our site and having them click on the Sponsor a Dipper link (https://www.formstack.com/forms/?1475579-CHCTzX4bpo).

Please share this information with anyone you know who is fearless enough to brave the icy waters!  We need your help to make this year our biggest and best year yet!

About the Boys & Girls Clubs and YMCA of Greater Waterville

When it comes to serving youth, we are one of the largest. Each year we serve over 5,000 youth.  Our After School Program has over 300 youth registered at the main club and serves about 150 children every day after school with a hot meal, academic enrichment activities, recreation, and fun!  Most of these children come to us by school bus from the Fairfield, Waterville, Winslow, and Oakland schools.  Our recreation, athletic, New England Baseball Camp, New England Softball Camp and Camp Tracy programs draw youth and families from 191 Maine towns and 19 states!
