Route 126 Bridge in West Gardiner closing on 8/4 for two weeks
News, Transportation
Beginning on Monday, August 4 at approximately 7:00 a.m., the Route 126 Bridge in West Gardiner will be closed.

The closure is expected to last for approximately two weeks so that the bridge can be raised. This work is part of a project that consists of rehabbing the Route 126 Bridge superstructure, which also includes repairs to the concrete deck, new pavement wearing surface, concrete substructure modifications and approach work. Up to this point, work on the bridge has been open to one-way alternating traffic with a signalized light.
The signed detour route during bridge rehabilitation will redirect traffic to Spears Corner Road, to High Street, and to West Hill Road. The detour as signed is approximately 9.5 miles. The Route 126 Bridge carries approximately 4,300 vehicles per day over the mainline of the Maine Turnpike.
Message boards will be in place to inform approaching travelers of closures, and Highway Advisory Radio broadcasts on 1610 AM will also be used to inform drivers.
The $878,266 project was awarded to Scott Construction Inc. of Falmouth. Substantial completion for the project is scheduled for November 2014.
