The Kennebec Valley Humane Society (KVHS) is FULL with cats and kittens in need of loving homes!  Summer is the busiest time of year at KVHS, which serves 21 area towns and over 3,000 local animals in need every year.  During this time the local shelter sees an increase in the number of cats and kittens that are in need of a forever home.  To help meet the need for these animals, all cats over 6 months of age will have a half price adoption fee of $40 and there will be a two for one adoption fee for kittens at $100 for two kittens. These cats and kittens are all spayed/neutered, up to date our routine vaccinations, and waiting for their loving home today.

In addition to a large need for loving homes for animals during the busy summer months, the shelter is also in need of supplies such as dry cat food, dry kitten food, can cat food, and cat litter.

Consider adopting a black cat from KVHS!

During the month of July the Kennebec Valley Humane Society (KVHS) will be offering a discount on the adoption fees for all black cats and kittens in their local shelter on Western Avenue in Augusta. Shelter officials say that black cats are the least adopted cats in their facility, and that they have many of these animals looking for homes.

“Across the country black cats have the lowest adoption rates and the highest euthanasia rates in shelters,” said KVHS Executive Director, Hillary Roberts. “At KVHS we see low adoption rates in our black cats compared to other cats, and we struggle to understand this statistic. We have a shelter full of sweet, curious black cats and kittens in need of loving homes.
