Local Children’s Author to Lead StoryWalk in Bath’s Library Park

The community is invited to take a self-guided StoryWalk at Library Park on Wednesday, May 2, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 pm. A StoryWalk is an innovative way to combine physical activity and reading and is appropriate for all ages. Pages of a book are transformed into signs that are laid out in a trail, inviting families, children, caregivers, teachers, and others to follow the path of pages.

The book offered for this StoryWalk is Scoot! a nature-filled story by Maine children’s author and illustrator Cathryn Falwell. Falwell will visit the Library Park Gazebo at 4:00 p.m. to present an interactive word game about movement, read from Scoot!, and lead visitors through the StoryWalk. Scoot! and other books by the author will be available for purchase and signing.

Gardiner Continues to Replace Oil Boilers with Sustainable Wood Pellet Boilers

For the second time in two years, the City of Gardiner, Maine has chosen locally-produced wood pellets to heat its municipal buildings. Gardiner will host an open house on March 14, 2012 from 10:00 to 11:30 AM at Gardiner City Hall, 6 Church Street, in Gardiner’s historic downtown. The public is invited to attend and help celebrate Gardiner’s continued success with renewable energy, enjoy light refreshments, see the new boiler installation first-hand, and learn about the benefits of heating with a local and sustainable fuel.

Gardiner recently replaced its aging oil boiler at City Hall with two Maine Energy Systems OkoFEN wood pellet boilers built into a modular structure known as an Energy Box.

Nationally Recognized and Certified for Excellence

The clinical laboratory at Mid Coast Hospital has been recognized nationally and recertified for excellence in services by the College of American Pathologists (CAP). The notification of certification followed an on-site inspection of Mid Coast’s facilities and equipment.

“The CAP review examines all of the records, processes, and quality control procedures of the laboratory during the proceeding two years and evaluates the competency and education of the staff and its overall management,” explained Sue Ross, MT(HEW), Laboratory Director.

“The high level of knowledge, skill, and commitment of all the laboratory professionals here at Mid Coast is the reason we are able to meet the stringent standards of the College,” she said.
